Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in English literature. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the arm control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
