Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. In Washington she was made general correspondent for NBC News two year later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled with President Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss issues such as and the Iran Contra scandal.
