Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1996, she joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as a general reporter. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable news stories throughout the years, such as fiscal reform, the budget and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell traveled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
